Mario Turco is the retired Director of Education from the Algoma District School Board where he served as an educator for 42 years. He spent 9 years as Director of Education and 13 years as Superintendent. He has held positions of Secondary Principal, Vice-Principal, Department Head and teacher of mathematics. Since retirement, Mario has worked for the Ministry of Education, school boards and other organizations and individuals on educational, leadership and management matters. Mario is highly regarded and respected for his experience, his interpersonal skills, his knowledge and positive outlook. Mario has been described as a visionary leader. His personal experience as a young immigrant boy educated in Ontario fostered his conviction and his passion about the importance of education to prepare our youth for the future and for the importance of education to the viability of a strong prosperous society. Mario’s track record clearly demonstrates that he is a motivational leader who possesses high problem-solving and organizational abilities. His work in developing strong, proficient leaders is well known, and he was highly respected by his provincial counterparts for his integrity, honesty and genuine leadership. Mario possesses good judgment, common sense and is very sensitive to the needs of others. Mario is skilled in strategic management planning, leadership development, recruitment, succession and mentoring programs, capital planning (including new construction of schools; rightsizing & consolidation of schools), instructional leadership, interpersonal relations and community partnerships. He currently sits as a Director on the Sault Area Hospital Board.
Paul Toffanello is the retired Director of Educator from Northeastern Catholic DSB where he served 6 years in this role and 2 years as Superintendent. He has held positions of Secondary Principal and Vice-Principal in both the Public and Catholic school systems. For over 17 years, he was a Department Head, teacher of secondary school English and worked at the elementary level. He has written several professional documents and articles, and he was instrumental in the formation of the Literacy & Numeracy Secretariat. As well, he participated in the development of the Ontario Leadership Framework. He was lead instructor for the Principal’s Qualification Program in Northeastern Ontario over a 10-year period for the Public and Catholic Principals’ Associations. Paul is a well-respected, highly motivated individual whose breadth of experience includes education, health care and other not-for-profit organizations. Paul has worked successfully with organizations in strategic management planning, recruitment & selection, leadership development, succession and mentoring. He has served as consultant with a family health team in Ottawa, a family counselling practice in Timmins and currently, he is serving a private school organization in Vancouver. Paul is a motivational leader who possesses a clear understanding of organizational behavior with the unique ability to assess and advise companies and institutions in matters of enhancing the workplace. He is a skilled presenter, and he has a strong background in counseling and coaching professionals and leaders.
